William Sullivan, therapy intern at North Brooklyn Marriage and Family Therapy

William Sullivan, Intern

William Sullivan is a Marriage and Family Therapy intern who draws from an integrative systemic approach, tailoring each session to the unique needs of the client or couple. Influenced by structural therapy and emotionally attuned work, William brings a balance of directness and curiosity to the therapy room—gently disrupting stuck relational patterns while helping clients move towards deeper emotional honesty and connection.

His style is collaborative, hands-on, and grounded in the belief that how we communicate often matters more than what we’re saying. William incorporates mindfulness, experiential exercises, and metaphor to deepen insight and connection. He often likens relationships to musical instruments: they need tuning, care, and attention to stay in harmony.

William is especially passionate about working with couples, LGBTQ+ clients, and creative individuals navigating transitions, identity exploration, and communication breakdowns. He brings warmth, structure, and flexibility to his work with both individuals and relational systems.

He is currently completing his master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Northwestern University, a COAMFTE-accredited program, and is a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). He also holds a BFA in Film and Theater from New York University and brings a creative, systems-minded lens to his clinical work.
